Maximize Mental Health and Substance Abuse Outcomes with Nicotine Dependence Co-Treatment
During this webinar, Dr. Chad Morris, Director of the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, discussed the intersection of substance use treatment and nicotine dependence treatment. Specifically addressed was how co-treatment of opioid, marijuana, and nicotine use maximizes polysubstance use treatment and mental health outcomes. Dr. Morris presented the bio-psycho-social evidence for co-treatment models. Health systems change strategies were shared for integrating tobacco dependence treatment into behavioral health agency workflows and existing service offerings. Realistic, low-burden options for addressing the high prevalence of smoking among clients were provided.
