Webinar 77: Obesity and COVID-19
A webinar with Johanna Ralston, CEO of the World Obesity Federation, moderated by ICFJ Global Forum Community Manager, Paul Adepoju.
In a recent report, the World Obesity Federation found that COVID-19 death rates are 10 times higher in countries where more than half of the adult population is overweight. Aside from COVID-19, obesity has also been regarded as the driving force behind many non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension, some cancers and several others.
Even though studies have repeatedly shown that being overweight exacerbates several health conditions, efforts to address the issue are being implemented at different paces across the world.
In this webinar, Johanna Ralston, the CEO of the World Obesity Federation, will provide insights for journalists on the global fight against obesity, from the misconceptions and key players to the impacts of COVID-19 and exemplary models from across the world.
