Today I'm talking about my va claim and how to connect sleep apnea secondary to PTSD.

Lets look at the 3 main categories of apnea are central sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea, and mixed sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is gnarly and so is PTSD. If you have either one of these disabilities you need to see a doctor. I have both of them and I hate wearing the CPAP Machine but I wear it so I do not kill more brain cells and do any more damage to my organs. Combat Craig Out.

Once you have your Sleep Apnea service connected as a secondary condition to PTSD, you will fall into one of the 4 ratings below. They are 0%, 30%, 50% and 100%. Lets talk about the breakdown.

A 100% rating from VA for Sleep Apnea will have Chronic respiratory failure with carbon dioxide retention or cor pulmonale which means the enlargement of the right ventricle of your heart, or; requires tracheostomy. When looking at rating criteria its important to look at the words and and or.
A 50% rating from VA for Sleep Apnea Requires use of breathing assistance device such as continuous airway pressure (CPAP) machine; I fall into this category. I went to the sleep study at the Va in I had apnea episodes. I was prescribed a CPAP machine and I used it every night.
A 30% rating from VA for Sleep Apnea has Persistent day-time hypersomnolence. This means that you fall asleep during the day and Va asks you about this on a variety of their checklists when you go in for an exam. They ask if you fall asleep while driving a car, being a passenger in a car, after you eat lunch and so on and so forth
