The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for City Council and the citizens of Lethbridge to obtain information and gain education around the issue of oil drilling within the limits of the City of Lethbridge. Topics areas will include:
Tenure and How Mineral Leases are Awarded (Brenda Ponde, Alberta Energy)
Drilling Processes (Dr. Douglas Schmitt, University of Alberta)
Regulatory Framework and Public Safety (Bob Willard, Alberta Energy Regulator)
Public Health (Dr. Brent Friesen, Alberta Health Services)
Municipal Responsibilities and Jurisdiction (Jeff Greene, Brian Cornforth -- City of Lethbridge)
Panel members were chosen for their knowledge and expertise in the defined topic areas as they relate to the broad issue of urban drilling.
