Officials in Papua New Guinea have appealed for international help - warning that more than 2,000 people may have been buried alive under a landslide that occurred three days ago.

The mountainside collapsed in the early hours of Friday while people were sleeping, burying six villages in the isolated Enga province, 600 kilometres from the capital Port Moresby.

More than 150 houses were inundated by piles of debris almost two storeys high.
