TEDMED Great Challenges: N is for Nutrition: How are schools helping prevent childhood obesity?
Most kids partake of school lunches. And, as has been well documented, many of them leave much to be desired: Processed, colorless and full of fat and sugar.
Some schools, though, are making changes. Fresh food is on the menu -- sometimes grown harvested by kids, on school property, and sometimes cooked by the students, too. Education about good nutrition and its relationship to a healthy body weight is on the rise. Are these efforts sustainable, and are they making a difference? Could the government do more to help? Join this week's live online Google+ Hangout to discuss. Our guests include Travis Robinson, Managing Director of The Kitchen Community, which helps schools set up their own edible gardens.
