Swarthmore Class of 1960 Intergenerational Forum on Wealth Inequality
On May 30, 2020, the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility hosted the Intergenerational Forum on Wealth Inequality with the Swarthmore College Class of 1960. In the conversation, moderated by John Harberson '60, Class of '60 members observed a short presentation about the dimensions of wealth inequality by Ben Stern '20 and Zach Lytle '21. After their presentation, Elise Landau '60 followed up by grounding the presentation in the current impacts of wealth inequality, such as the need for a bachelor's degree to secure an un-guaranteed position in the middle class. Michael Westgate '60 then focused attention on what can be done and offers information about the carbon tax and changing loan practices. Finally, Benjamin Berger, executive director of the Lang Center and Associate Professor of Political Science, offers a recap of all the information and ideas covered.
