Social Inequalities & Low Wage Work (ECON 337S)
Students in this course participate in community economic development in Durham. This semester students partnered with Title 1 middle schools in Durham and Mobile Citizens to gain new insights into local conditions of social inequalities and low-wage work. Students will be evaluating Mobile Citizens, a program that works with Title 1 schools in an after school program that teaches computer science programs. The hope is that this opportunity will build enthusiasm for computer science that will lead to higher paying jobs in the future. The course will culminate in a final event where the middle school school students present the mobile application they built to their classmates and to the Duke community.
