SC takes on center, state govts on forced sterilization-NewsX

The Supreme Court has come down hard on the centre and state governments, following reports of forced and incentivized sterilization, brought to its notice by a health activist. Government outsourcing sterilization to NGOs is believed to be a root cause of the problem. Shocked by the allegations made in a PIL filed by health activist Devika Biswas, the apex court has issued notices to the centre and state governments asking for records of forced and incentivized sterilizations. The move a precursor to cracking down on unsafe and illegal sterilizations.
