Fierce fighting is reported in the east, where Russian forces are said to have attacked a hospital in the Donetsk region. There have been clashes in the port cities of Odesa and Mariupol, and in Kharkiv, in the north-east. Russia appears to be in control of the Antonov airbase, about 15-20km outside Kyiv. However, Ukraine says it is fighting back and a battle appears to be continuing there. The number of overall casualties is still unclear as dozens of military personnel and civilians are reportedly killed. US President Joe Biden convened a White House Situation Room meeting with his national security team to discuss events in Ukraine. Speaking earlier Biden said Russia violated International Law.
