In 2019, a proposed class-action lawsuit in Saskatchewan alleging the coerced sterilization of Indigenous women in Canada turned up reports from more than 100 women. The reports came in from the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Québec, and Ontario.

Forced and coerced sterilization is but one example of the systemic, institutionalized, and racist forms of violence against Indigenous women in Canada. It is another way that the bodies of Indigenous women have been
policed and controlled.

We are working with the Native Women's Resource Centre of Toronto on the Indigenous segment of our #RelentlessResilience campaign to raise awareness of violence against Indgenous women and what is needed for real change.
