PWNA's Disaster Relief for tribal communities

This video highlights the impact of the #KingGoldMinespill and the #disasterrelief by Partnership With Native Americans (PWNA) as a #firstresponder for the reservations.

The first speaker on the video, Duane “Chili” Yazzie, a Navajo Elder and President of the Shiprock Chapter of the #Navajo Nation, describes how toxic chemicals from the mine spilled into the Animas River, leaving Tribal citizens, farmers, ranchers and livestock in the Four Corners region with a #contaminatedwater supply.

The second speaker, Rafael Tapia, Jr., our VP of Programs, describes other disaster events where Tribal communities requested aid and PWNA responded, pulling and packing goods from our Southwest distribution center and delivering them to their communities.

When #disaster or environmental #emergency strikes in reservation communities, PWNA is often the first organization tribes call for help. Annually, PWNA ships tons of #cleanwater, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene kits, #emergencyfood and other supplies to Tribal communities affected by floods, wildfires, winter storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and man-made disasters like the King Gold Mine spill.

Through emergency relief and other seasonal services such as winter fuel, winter emergency boxes and more, PWNA aided more than 64,000 Native Americans in 2015 alone. Learn more at http://www.NativePartnership.org/disasterrelief.
