Using psychoeducation to provide young people (and their families) with information on their mental illness helps them feel more engaged, reduces stigma, and empowers them in a situation where they are likely to feel helpless. Following an overview of the theory and evidence-base, this webinar will focus on how to use psychoeducation to work with and engage young people who have mental health issues. The webinar will also focus on how to tailor the psychoeducation for a young person’s specific needs and presenting issues.

Presenter

Dr Alex Parker, Senior Research Fellow, Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health

Dr. Alex Parker is a Psychologist and Senior Research Fellow with Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health. Alex has been involved in early intervention research and worked in youth mental health services for the past 10 years. She also leads the headspace Centre of Excellence, operated by Orygen.

Alex is leading a major Australia-wide investigation, funded by the NHMRC, into the effects of incorporating physical activity into routine clinical care for young people with depression.
