All life depends on Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. The region teems with life, but is suffering from climate change and threat of overfishing. Protected areas can safeguard biodiversity and give life the best chance of enduring environmental change. In recent years, governments have made progress in in protecting the Southern Ocean, but as our recent research shows, there are still vast areas of the Antarctic in urgent need of protection. see our new study "Progress towards a representative network of Southern Ocean protected areas
