Care International PNG Country Director Justine McMahon has discussed the catastrophic landslide in the Enga Province of Papua New Guinea.
In a letter to the United Nations, Papua New Guinea's disaster agency estimates more than 2,000 people could be buried under the rubble.
Ms McMahon told Sky News Australia the “houses made out of bush materials” would not be able to withstand such a large landslide.
“The other factor that contributed to the situation is the time it occurred, which was three in the morning, when everyone’s asleep.”
