Nicotine Dependence: One Cause for Many Diseases!

Despite knowing the harmful effects, if an individual continues to smoke or consume tobacco is other forms, it is called as being addicted or dependent. Tobacco contains the chemical “nicotine”, that works on the brain by giving it a temporary pleasing effect. Tobacco even in small quantities leads to addiction. Hence, it is always advised to avoid it. For a better understanding, below are a few signs and symptoms experienced due to nicotine or tobacco dependence:

. Stain nails a yellow hue: This symptom is mainly observed among individuals who smoke. There are two reasons for yellow nail: During smoking, the nails are exposed to the tar and nicotine present in the cigarette while smoking. Another reason being oxygen deprivation. Smoking blocks the supply of oxygen to the nails. In severe cases, lack of oxygen also leads to fungal infections.

To conclude, nicotine dependence results in medical complications like lung cancer, heart problems, diabetes, eye-related issues, infertility, and much more. Therefore, it is important to overcome the addiction or dependence by knowing the root cause or triggers and having a strong willpower along with support from family and friends.
