Significant advances in our understanding of the neurobiologic basis of tobacco dependence and effective strategies for controlling the compulsion to smoke have made it possible to help many more patients achieve abstinence and avoid the consequences of this terrible, and highly prevalent, addiction. This clinically-focused discussion aims to help clinicians become more effective in their ongoing efforts to impact this disease.
