Massive Landslide Strikes Papua New Guinea, Hundreds Feared Dead | Firstpost Earth
Over 300 people are believed to have been killed after a massive landslide struck remote villages in Papua New Guinea's Enga province on Friday. The landslide burried over 1,000 houses. Emergency services are attempting to reach the villages that were impacted. According to humanitarian agency Care Australia, a rapid response team of medics and military personnel has reached the isolated landslide site. However, the rescue efforts are hampered by difficult terrain and significant damage to main roads, making the area accessible only by helicopter as highway access is blocked. It is unclear how many people remain trapped under the rubble.
