The extreme flooding, prompted by heavy rain that began Wednesday, washed away roads, bridges, homes, and cars. Some residents escaped to the roofs of their homes, fleeing rising water levels.

Eastern Kentucky could potentially receive an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall by Friday evening, according to the Weather Prediction Center.

Also on Friday, Pres. Joe Biden issued a disaster relief declaration, which will allow the state to access disaster relief funding.
