Japan: Forced sterilization victim speaks out as lawsuit filed
Three people filed lawsuits in Tokyo on Thursday seeking damages from the Japanese government over forced sterilizations carried out under the now-defunct eugenics protection law.
The lawsuits, filed in district courts of Tokyo, Sapporo and Sendai, by two men and a woman claimed conducting sterilizations without their consent or against their will is unconstitutional.
One of the three victims, who does not want to be identified and used a fictitious name of Saburo Kita said, "If people hear my story about Eugenic operation, I am sure some are watching me in front of T.V., so I wish those people will have courage to come to reach to us and hold hands each other, file the suit with the court."
