Hurricane Beryl leaves over 2 million Texans without power:

After striking Texas as a Category 1 storm on Sunday evening, Hurricane Beryl’s path of destruction continues, and has not only caused widespread damage and flooding, but has left more than two million residents without power and eight people dead.

Texas’ acting Gov. Dan Patrick addressed the chaos in a Monday evening press conference, advising Texans not to underestimate Beryl as it makes it way through the southern state. “[Beryl] might as well be a Category 5 storm to you if you're in the middle of it. So, the lesson I hope everyone [learns] for this time, is we take no hurricane or no tropical storm for granted,” he said.
Patrick also revealed that power service provider CenterPoint was actively working to contract and send roughly 11,500 technicians to travel into Texas and help bring the power back – as opposed to their regular 1,675 service workers.

Echoing much of Patrick’s words, Texas’ Division of Emergency Management chief Nim Kidd reminded residents that they are “in harm’s way right now,” advising them to “take shelter if needed.”

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm is forecast to move across eastern Texas and into the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley later in the week.
