Even as Youtuber Paras Singh is facing the heat for his racist and dereogatary comments towards the people of Arunachal Pradesh, more YouTubers like GTX Preet and 420 Gaming are being flagged off online and reported for similar racist slurs against the people of North East.
And there is one thing common amongst all these hate mongers. They are YouTubers, who run successful gaming channels and they are all gunning for the popular game PUBG's relaunch that was actually one of the 118 chinese apps that were banned last September by India after the Galwan valley clash in Ladakh that left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
These YouTubers are angry at anyone who is calling for a ban on the PUBG relaunch. On Saturday, when former Union Minister and current Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a complete ban on the yet to be launched Battlegrounds Mobile India, many of these YouTubers started revolting by mocking him and the people of North East calling them Chinese, when in fact, these are the very people who are actually opposing a game they say could pose a potential threat to security of India & privacy of our citizens and a way to circumvent & disregard our laws
And Congress MLA Ninong Ering isn't the only one calling for a ban on PUBG's relaunch, some other leaders have also joined in the chorus and for good reason.
According to Ering's letter to PM Modi, the threat from this game is serious and runs deep - much beyond the understanding of gaming geeks, who sit in the comforts of their homes and hurl racist slurs at anyone, who is putting out a reasonable argument against the relaunch of PUBG.
Consider this. In his letter to the Prime Minister, Ering has said that Krafton India has hired workers from Tencent, a Chinese conglomerate that was an investor of PUBG Mobile India. He also called out Krafton's 22.4 million dollar investment in Indian firm Nodwin, stating that this matter is a national security concern. Soon after this, Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi also called for a ban on Battlegrounds Mobile India according to the media reports. He stated that the game's release would allow Ten-cent's re-entry into the Indian market.
And if you thought, India was the only country that banned PUBG Last year, then you're wrong. India is just one of the many countries that have banned the game. Other countries where the game is banned include China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Korea, Jordan, Nepal, Israel, and Iraq. Yes, one of the most surprising names on this list is that of China - because Tencent Games, which is the official distributor for PUBG Mobile is a Chinese entity. However, as per several media reports, China banned PUBG because of the amount of bloodshed in the game. To combat this, Tencent has now replaced a separate version of the game called Game For Peace to adjust with the country's regulations. In the Game For Peace, the blood is shown in green colour, and instead of shooters lying in a pool of blood, they would wave goodbye and fly off.
As per media reports, the prime reasons why countries banned PUBG were--the game is too addictive, it does not care about its users' health, does not warn about the ill effects of the screentime, and propagates violence. But India has been quite clear and upfront about its reasons for the ban. India banned PUBG last year, under Section 69 A of the Information Technology Act. The Government of India said the PUBG Mobile Application was engaged in activities that are detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity, defence and security of the country.
But the relaunch of this game in India has now stirred up a bigger controversy and a laid bare a deeply distrubing mindset of some YouTubers, who have targetted the North East ethinicity, to prove their point. 21 year old YouTuber Paras Singh was apprehended in Ludhiana by the Punjab Police after a case was registered in Arunachal Pradesh and he has been charged with some really stringent sections of the IPC. Paras has been booked under sections 124 A for sedition which means inciting hate against a state, 153A for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc and section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Legal Exprets say that out of these section 124 A is particularly is very stringent because Sedition is a non-bailable offence. If proven Paras could face imprisonment for life, to which fine may be added, or with imprisonment which may extend to three years, to which fine may be added, as per the legal experts. The other charges also carry jail terms that can extend up to 5 years and also make him liable for a fine.
