How-To & Style
Cancers in children are rare, and the genetics and epigenetic causes are very different from
those of adults. Consequently, the study of the etiology and potential therapies for these tumors
requires intensive research. The majority of children diagnosed with cancer survive their
disease, but the long-term consequences of current treatments lead to lifelong health issues.
Thus, one of the primary goals of research at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute
(GCCRI) is to identify and exploit weaknesses that are induced by oncogenic changes, to
develop novel therapeutic approaches that will be tumor specific and have less toxicity than
current multimodality treatments.
