‘Forced sterilization’ victims receiving reparations, compensation from Virginia
As late as the 1970s, many states had eugenics laws on the books that forcefully sterilized mentally or physically disabled citizens, as well as ethnic minorities or those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, making having children impossible. Only recently have states taken the initiative to correct this injustice, with Virginia budgeting for payments to the surviving victims of forced sterilization. RT’s Anya Parampil reports on the survivors and the history of the laws.
