Scientists say we are in or are approaching a mass extinction event, losing species 1,000 to 10,000 times faster than the natural extinction rate. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, a quarter of all plant and animal species are facing extinction threat to their survival. COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, has thrown a wrench in the existing problems, and introducing new threats like disease. Here is a look at five animals at risk of extinction.
