No parent ever wants to face the reality that their child might have a mental illness. But the truth is that somewhere between thirteen to twenty percent of kids aged three to seventeen experience a mental disorder in a given year. It’s an important public health issue that must be addressed.
Joining Dr Steinbaum are Dr. Victor Fornari, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Zucker Hillside Hospital and Janet Susin (SUH-SIN), president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness for Queens and Nassau counties in New York.
