Digital Tracking and Anti Surveillance
Today’s technologies are amazing for their ease of use and ability to connect people. However, many technologies come with a cost in privacy that many people may not be aware of. Organizations and individuals care about collecting your data, but what they don’t always care about how they use it, who they sell it to, or if they store it securely, which can lead to negative consequences such as receiving spam, phishing attacks, and identity theft. In this short video, Marc Boyce will review why these costs exist, how companies capture data about people, what privacy risks exist for different technologies, and what you can do to decrease your risk.
This video is part of the CSNP Cyber Safety Initiative, with the goal of increasing awareness of personal cyber safety and security risks through short videos, blogs, events, and external resources. Learn more at csnp.org/cybersafety.
