Delivery RISK in Overweight Ladies|Obesity, High BP & Blood Sugar in Pregnancy-Dr. Shashikala H
In overweight women, it is not the delivery that is risky to them, it starts even before pregnancy and during pregnancy and after labor. Before pregnancy the overweight women can experience irregular cycles, difficulty in getting pregnant and also a prediabeteic or diabetic changes. During pregnancy again she is more at a risk of developing hypertension, gestational diabetes and this hypertension becoming more severe leading to preeclampsia. It can also lead to macrosomia that is very heavy babies. Again these heavy babies during delivery, it leads to injury during child birth to the baby and the mother. There is an increased risk of cesarean section because of the baby being overweight. There is also excess risk of excessive bleeding to the woman during and after delivery. Once the delivery is completed, the woman is at risk of developing chest complications , that is respiratory complications post delivery and high risk of wound infection and also exercise during pregnancy and post delivery is very important to cut down on the risks that is being mentioned.
