Population-based cancer registries are the eyes and ears of cancer control.
For Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Dr Freddie Bray, Head of the Section of Cancer Surveillance at IARC, presents information on the global burden of cervical cancer and how registries help us to understand the inequalities associated with this disease.
Data from population-based registries help us plan and track the impact of programmes aimed at reducing the incidence of cervical cancer and other cancers. This data is crucial to the WHO cervical cancer elimination initiative, which aims to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.
