Be Proactive: A Model for Community Food Sustainability: Danielle Graham at TEDxTacoma

Danielle's talk explores how the current regional and global food distribution system works, then illustrates what a food-safe, and food self-sufficient community looks like.

Utilizing this model, she recently helped to transform the small but growing Yelm Food Cooperative into a vision-driven, educationally focused 501.c.3 community service organization, which offers a broad range of programs and services designed to provide the community with comprehensive food education and access to clean and healthy grower-direct foods. Through partnerships with local schools, churches, community service organizations, military groups, and youth groups, these programs are projected to create jobs through a broad range of agricultural retraining programs.

Danielle Graham is a mother, farmer, research scientist, writer, and visionary. She has worked as a consultant at all levels of the food industry for over 20 years, and is an inspired voice promoting healthy, environmentally responsible, and regional farmer-direct food access. Her background includes an early career as a classical performer and soundtrack recording musician, Editor-in-Chief of SuperConsciousness Magazine, and a research scientist with work published by the American Institute of Physics.
