Elaine Pelley, MD, presents a talk about workforce trends and occupational gender segregation in the field of medicine. Dr. Pelley is an Associate Professor (CHS) in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Medicine. Her scholarly work includes studies on workforce trends in endocrinology, which in recent years has seen a reversal in gender trends with women now comprising the majority of early-career endocrinologists. I n addition to her clinical work, she is heavily involved in medical student education. As Director of Preclinical Medical Education, she directs Phase 1 (the first 3 semesters) of the ForWard Curriculum, which is the UW School of Medicine and Public Health's innovative, fully-integrated, competency-based MD curriculum. The title of her March 1, 2019 Grand Rounds talk is "When a Specialty Becomes "Women's Work": Occupational Gender Segregation in Medicine."
