One organization hopes to bring love through clean clothes

Using a couple of quarters, a cup of detergent and a little love, one organization is trying to lighten the load for families.

“Some of our goals is to free up some funds for families. So, to help them feel supported,” said Jessica Raymenc, event coordinator for Laundry of Love.

Support is something Laundry of Love wants to offer through providing clean clothes. They offered two free loads of laundry to at least 150 people across the metro area. Along with free laundry, they provided masks, hand sanitizer, community resources and a free meal.

Having clean clothes is a necessity in many aspects of life but most importantly it helps to boost confidence.

“It makes a big difference with self-esteem,” said Celia Juel, manager of Homestyle Laundry.

Homestyle Laundry in Council Bluffs opened its door and machines to the community partnering with Laundry of Love.

They are one of two laundromats to help with the cause, the other Wash Daze in Council Bluffs.

Juel said clean clothes make a difference in people’s lives, especially in children as they head back to school.

“It makes a big difference in kids going back to school, how they are treated by others,” Juel said.

Laundry of Love plans to host more free laundry washing events in the future to give access to as many people as possible.
