School Polices & Practices for Violence Prevention - Research2Practice Webinar
Youth identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) and transgender/gender non-conforming (TGNC) are at higher risk for sexual violence victimization than their straight and cisgender counterparts. School policies and practices may positively influence school climate and mitigate this risk. Dr. Cruz’s presentation will focus on the results of an analysis of School Health Profiles and NM Youth Risk and Resiliency survey data to determine the association between four school policies and practices and sexual violence. Dr. Lohmiller will speak to the implementation framework used by Educational Access Group as a mechanism for supporting programming in schools and garnering educator buy-in. She will also briefly discuss the foundational nature of brain-based, trauma-informed approaches targeting violence, social-emotional learning, restorative justice and other initiatives addressing the causes and manifestations of toxic stress in the educational setting.
