Hi, I'm Tim Soutphommasane and I've just started as Australia's Race Discrimination Commissioner.
As a country, Australia has come a long way on race relations.
We're an open and accepting society; we're a multicultural success story.
All this should be a source of pride. It says a great deal about the decent and generous character of Australians.
But from time to time, we're reminded that not everyone gets a fair go.
This doesn't mean that Australia is racist.
What it does mean is that we shouldn't be complacent.
Through the Racism:It Stops With Me campaign, the Australian Human Rights Commission has started a new conversation about what you can do when you see prejudice and discrimination.
Go to our website - http://itstopswithme.humanrights.gov.au - and see what you can do about racism, whereever it happens.
