Alzheimer's disease is typically construed as disorder of memory (typical Alzheimer's disease), but can also present with initial problems in vision (posterior cortical atrophy) or language (logopenic phonological aphasia). Understanding the evolution of these different AD variants is vital for prognosis and therapeutic planning, as well as clarifying basic disease mechanisms. One approach to this problem involves modelling disease progression as a series of events and developing algorithms which learn the event ordering in different phenotypes from a diverse range of clinical, neuropsychological, neuroimaging and genetic metrics. This project will utilise data and clinical experience from the world's largest longitudinal study of posterior cortical atrophy and related AD phenotypes.
