Narcissistic Abuse PTSD what TRAUMA Survivors Need to KNOW
Chronic stress caused by narcissistic abuse impacts the circuitry of the brain. The hippocampus is responsible for memory. Chronic stress decreases the volume of the hippocampus and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. This is important to know because without understanding how memory plays into our trauma and reactivity, we are doomed to stay stuck in old patterns.
Acute and chronic stress results in changes in the brain all trauma survivors need to be aware of. When we know what is wrong, and that what is wrong is NOT our fault, then we can disidentify with the problems narcissistic abuse has created and begin our healing journey.
The hippocampus can REGENERATE. There is hope for PTSD survivors and survivors of NARCISSISTIC ABUSE.
Children of narcissistic parents, who are now suffering from codependency symptoms, may be struggling to learn how to love themselves after narcissistic abuse. Narcissists tend to attract people pleasers, or codependent personalities. Because codependents are eager to please, because they seek outside validation, they are easy targets for narcissistic lovers, and friends.
It is not easy to learn how to love yourself after narcissistic abuse, but with the right codependency recovery tools, it is possible. It is even possible to find love after codependency.
