Hurricane and storm surge warnings are in effect for Tampa Bay ahead of increasingly likely impacts from Hurricane Ian, according to the National Hurricane Center. Significant impacts are anticipated — including major storm surge, damaging winds and flooding rainfall.

As of the 11 p.m. advisory, Category 2 Hurricane Ian was located about 105 miles southeast of the western tip of Cuba, with sustained winds of 105 mph. Ian's movement is north-northwest at 13 mph. Ian is expected to become a major hurricane overnight or early Tuesday, the NHC reports.

A life-threatening storm surge of 5-10 feet is possible along the west coast of Florida, with the highest risk from Fort Myers to the Tampa Bay region. People living along and near the coast are urged to evacuate to safety.
