Empowering Women to End Child Marriage in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, child marriage is illegal, but unfortunately, it still happens in many communities. There is a long-held perception in the country that girls should not be educated and that they are burdens on the family. Thus, families are eager to marry off their daughters at a young age. But these child brides do not know how to take care of themselves yet, let alone become a young mother. Food for the Hungry (FH) began walking alongside communities where this practice still occurs to empower women to think differently. Through savings group and business lessons, mothers are raising their incomes and becoming more respected. Society is viewing them differently.
