VICTORIA - A new report says there are more children living in poverty in BC than in any other province in Canada.

Critics and the opposition are demanding the Government create a poverty reduction plan.

The Minister responsible agrees we need change, but Mary McNeil sees poverty as a regional problem.

The report from the BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition finds nearly 17% of children in BC were living in poverty in 2009. That's up almost 2% from 2008.
